One week ago tomorrow, Ben Carlson’s statue was erected in McFadden Square. While most everyone was focused looking up at the statue, what you may have missed were the names at the bottom of everyone who made it possible. This includes the donors (Save Newport’s name is included– so technically, you’re on there!) and also all of the lifeguards working on 2014.
One thing that I didn’t realize is that the Ben Carlson Foundation printed up 1,600 shirts for the launch of the memorial– all were free, as their gift back to the community. They vanished quickly amongst the approximately 2,000 people in attendance. None will be reprinted. So if you have one, it’s special. And if you have two and one is an extra large… I don’t have one 🙂
