Don’t Drive Drunk on NYE (FREE RIDES)

Don’t drive drunk.  Period.  This year, Newport’s DUI task force will be out in force– all the way until January 3rd.

However, this New Years Eve there will be FREE RIDES given through a variety of ways.  AAA is offering its annual Tipsy Tow service, which gives people a ride home up to 7 miles away, free of cost.  Give them a ring at 800-400-4AAA [translates to 1-800-400-4222]

Our county government is also kicking in some funds to cover the celebration this year, with OCTA offering free bus rides from 6pm to 2:30am on New Years Eve and into New Years morning.  For bus routes and schedules, call 714-636-7433 or visit www.octa.net — thank Irvine’s Jeff Lalloway for this one.

New users of Uber can use my code of “Uber4Newport” and it will pay for the first $15 of your fare.  You can download Uber here: https://get.uber.com/invite/uber4newport

New users of Lyft can use my code of “SAVENEWPORT” and it will pay for the first $50 of your fare — FIFTY DOLLARS!  You can download Lyft here:https://www.lyft.com/invited/SAVENEWPORT

If you live on the peninsula, you can *always* get a free ride from the Downtowner App (http://www.ridedowntowner.com/download/) which will pick you up from the Newport Pier area and take you anywhere on the peninsula.  The service operates off of tips only, year ’round.

Or, you can go the tried-and-true method by calling a Yellowcab at 1-800-4-MY-TAXI

So, save this information for your reference later tonight, share it with your friends, family, and everyone else. You could stop a DUI from happening– and maybe save a life.
