Last night, the CdM Republican Assembly (which is actually a Newport-wide organization) met with the candidates to endorse. CdMRA shares its name with the CdM Residents Association– but they are not one in the same. The Republican Assembly is a subsidiary of the California Republican Assembly.
Of all the people there, the only candidates missing were Mike Toerge and Diane Dixon. As Dixon is running unopposed, this is not surprising– but Toerge missing was quite a shock. Toerge also missed a meeting the day before at the Newport Harbor Republican Womens association– one that he told me personally he would be attending.
Enough with the who’s who! You want the endorsement list? You’ve got it:
– CdMRA has endorsed Duffy in the race against Mayor Rush Hill.
– CdMRA has endorsed Scott Peotter in his race against Toerge.
– CdMRA has endorsed Roy Englebrecht in his race against Kevin Muldoon and Tim Brown.
It should be an interesting race, as it is becoming apparent that the Measure Y issue is really shaping endorsements and could hand Englebrecht the win on race, based solely on this single issue.
