The unintended consequences of a Nanny State

What has happened since the city-instituted bag-bans have taken place, despite the outcries from citizens?

Some people claim that their stores have seen a doubling of shoplifting since plastic bag bans have been implemented.

Friends in Huntington tell me that the instances of dog droppings not being picked up by owners have skyrocketed since plastic bags have become less available.

As MSN Money reports, others are concerned that nearly 2,000 jobs in California will be lost due to this ban.

Cyclists– a demographic which I suspected would support the ban– have told me that they are upset because even a mild bit of rain or mist will destroy their ability to use store-provided bags on a bicycle, should they choose to do sporadic shopping without bringing their own bags.

What do you think?  The state has just implemented a bag ban of their own, so be prepared to deal with the fallout– especially if you’re a business owner… or if you’re on a bike!
