APPREHENDED: Shooter on Balboa Peninsula’s 21st Street

This morning at approximately 10am, there were several shots fired outdoors in the 21st street area.  Police have confirmed that there was a shooter firing off rounds publicly.  Police were initially called due to property destruction.

Locals in the area reported hearing three shots, and seeing someone chased into the bay.  So far–thankfully– the only reports of injuries have been minor, resulting from said person having “something like broken glass”, apparently lodged into their eye after the shooting.

Homicide is relatively rare in Newport Beach, averaging less than one murder per year.  Events like publicly discharged firearms are a very rare scenario.

The cause and relationship between the shooter and victim is not yet known.  This story will be regularly updated as new information comes in.

(Special thanks to Newport local Becca Willis for the tip, the photo above, and much of the information contained inside this post.)
