At about 7:30pm on Saturday night, an 18ft boat washed ashore near Lifeguard Tower 65. Eyewitness Patrick English said that Four Hispanic men who spoke only Spanish repeatedly told the story that they were the only people on the boat, despite the fact that there were 18 life preservers aboard. Their story was that they were locals and they were trying to use the small craft to go to Catalina Island for missionary work.
The boat was unable to be pulled out of the large waves, and after several hours of being battered around, the craft succumbed to its injuries, resting on the sand beneath the waves at about 11pm:
Sunday morning, the boat was pulled in, bitten in half by the ocean, it was barely recognizable from the night before.
A mystery, indeed!
