Due to faulty information sources, we reported that the next SpaceX launch would be coming from Vandenberg, and would be visible throughout California. This is incorrect. The launch will take place from Florida, and will not be visible here. We apologize for the confusion and hope that our speedy correction has helped.
With the last rocket launch by Elon Musk’s SpaceX catching most people off-guard and with so many people presuming anything from asteroids to aliens to a war with North Korea, the new launch will be a bit more publicized.
Friday– sometime in the window from 5pm until 8pm– the newest SpaceX Falcon 9 will be launched. The payload for the last mission (pictured in cover photo) was for a GPS iridium satelitte, but this mission– called the “Zuma mission”– will launch a payload for the U.S. government that was built by Northrop Grumman, and not much more is known about it at this time.

The launch will be from Vandenberg Airforce Base which is located up in Santa Barbara County– so keep your eyes towards the North and out over the ocean!
