Tonight, the world-famous Nobu sushi restaurant will be opening in Newport Beach. After 18 months of construction, the venue hosted a “soft opening” last night for family and friends, and is hosting their first public opening tonight (their official “Grand Opening” will be about a month away– this is just for us!).
Sushi bar opens at 4pm and seating by reservation only is available from 6pm until 1030pm. For reservations, dial 949.429.4440 and tell them Mike Glenn told you about it– if there are still seats available, you’ll get’em!
I have dined at the Nobu in Malibu with a friend, and our bill came to over $700, which is by far the most I’ve ever spent on a meal– but the food there came meticulously prepared, insanely fresh, and cannot be described as anything short of magical. The ingredients were combined in an asian-fusion style that introduced me to flavors which I cannot remember because I could not put words to them; tastes I have not experienced either before or since. If you haven’t been there before and are budget-conscious like I *normally am* (aggg!!!!!), then be sure to keep a mental tab going, as it is very easy to get carried away with such flavors.
The 16,000 sqft location will be the old Warehouse for all you long-timers, which is right next to the Elks Lodge, at 3450 Via Oporto in Newport Beach. Valet service is offered at the door.
“We look forward to bringing guests the Nobu signatures they have come to love along with some very special items that are only available at Nobu Newport Beach,” owner Chef Nobu Matsuhisa said in a statement released late Thursday afternoon.
