A sad note that after 41 years of service to the Balboa Peninsula, the BJ’s Pizza at 106 Main Street will be closing. The Balboa Pier restaurant was a classic for many, and while competing with a young and energetic pizza environment next door cannot be an easy task, many insiders note that the opening of Cruisers actually added another few years of business to the establishment. In much the same way as adding a McDonalds across the street from a Wendy’s will increase business to both, Cruisers has put a lot of marketing efforts in, and instead of splitting the existing business in the area, it actually increased it for all by attracting outside business to the area. Unfortunately, not enough to keep the doors open at BJs.
The closing date for this establishment will be the end of this weekend, on Sunday, November 10th, 2019.
But don’t let those BJ Pizza Gift Cards go to waste! With a whopping 29 other locations in the Southern California area, you can always visit to get your birthday pizza at any of them. The closest locations would be right next door in our neighboring cities:
– Huntington Beach (200 Main Street, Huntington Beach, CA 92648 AND 16060 Beach Boulevard, Huntington Beach, CA 92647)
– Laguna Beach (280 S. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach, CA 92651)
– Irvine (13130 Jamboree Road, Irvine, CA 92602)
– Laguna Hills (24032 El Toro Road, Laguna Hills, CA 92653)
There are, of course, many others, and all of those can be found with the link above.
So if you want to get one last taste of Newport’s history for the last quarter-century– at the location of many of our’s first exposure to the pizza chain, swing on by this week and wish the location one last goodbye.
It’s been a great run, and you will be missed.
