Record-setting Turnout in the Polls!

With 664,915 ballots counted and 419,956 (estimated) left to count, we have got a real nail-biter on our hands for some of the county’s key races.  With a huge turnout– comprised of a surge in women and younger voters– some of these races could change as the votes are counted.

These ballots are:
Vote-By-Mail ballots which were turned in at the polls (187,800)
Vote-By-Mail (already received): 41,556
Vote-by-Mail (not yet received/mailed within 3 days of voting): 15,600
Provisional Ballots: 160,000
Election Day Paper Ballots (when the machines are broken): 13,200
Conditional Voter Registrations: 1,800

Traditionally, the Provisional ballots wind up being much more heavily Democratic, and the early-vote ballots are more Republican, but we will see how this turns out during this unique election cycle.

Next week, we will have full coverage of the STATEWIDE California votes, but here is where we land so far for ORANGE COUNTY voters:

Our Congressman, Dana Rohrabacher’s race, is too close to call for sure– but it appears that his opponent, Harley Rouda, has taken a solid lead of 3,612 votes, or 1%
Our Assemblyman, Matt Harper, is in an equally tight race separated by only 500 votes, or 0.4%  He currently leads against Cottie Petrie-Norris.
Newport Mayor Duffy Duffield looks like he may be defeated by Tim Stoaks, but the voter separation is only by 280 votes, or 1.1%

This is how ORANGE COUNTY voted (so far, with the counted votes) on the statewide initiatives, but these could change with additional vote counting, and because the rest of the state is a bit more liberal than OC, some of these could have opposite results statewide than what we are showing in OC:
