At 4:49:33 AM today, an earthquake which immediately registered as a 4.5 sent its waves through Newport Beach. The quake was centered at 34°01’01.2″N 116°46’55.2″W, about 12 miles Northeast of Beaumont. Yes, 71 miles from Newport sounds like a long way away, but that shaker definitely woke this author up all the way down here on Balboa Peninsula!
