Newport’s Olympians Return with Gold, Bronze, and Bragging Rights

Last Tuesday, the bulk of Newport’s Olympians returned from the Olympics in Rio.  While awards are traditionally given just for the top three placement– being anywhere in the top 20 in the world for any sport is bragging rights alone.

Here are what our Olympians brought home:

Charlie Buckingham – 11th in Laser Sailing
Sam Mikulak – 7th in Apparatus & 8th in Individual Finals for Gymnastics
Bret Bonanni – 4th in Mens Water Polo
Luca Cupido – 4th in Mens Water Polo
John Mann – 4th in Mens Water Polo
Josh Samuels – 4th in Mens Water Polo
Murphy Troy – 3rd in Mens Indoor Volleyball
Kaleigh Gilchrist – 1st in Womens Water Polo
Maddie Musselman – 1st in Womens Water Polo

While April Ross technically lives in Costa Mesa, she went to NHHS so I think she deserves a place on the list too– with her Bronze medal for Beach Volleyball!

Thanks to all of our athletes from Newport Beach.  It’s an honor to have you representing our small beach town!
