Pet of the Week: Ricky

Newport has a lot of great dogs in need of great homes and great owners… And we’ve got the perfect pup for you to rescue who desperately needs a forever home.

From the shelter:

“Ricky’s a pit bull, approx 2 years old.  Neutered, microchipped, dewormed and up-to-date on shots. He’s a little guy, under 50lbs now, still very  skinny, but he will fill out nicely once he has some muscle on him. He likes to roll around when he’s feeling playful. He LOVES belly rubs.  He’s a San Bernardino County euth list survivor. When I picked him up, he was very fearful and he refused to walk at all. He’s come such a long way. He LOVES walks now and is learning to not pull on leash.

  • He is potty trained!
  • He is shy, but friendly around new people.
  • He has met a few children during walks and was friendly, but he has not spent time with children, little dogs or other little animals while he’s been with me, so I can’t really comment on how is with.
  • He responds well to correction and will benefit from consistent training.
  • He is all-around pretty mellow at home, doesn’t bark, and enjoys playtime.
  • He’s a wonderful companion and will make a family very happy and lucky!

Home Free Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is a registered 501c3 organization and operates out of a facility in Newport Beach.  They provide housing and care for the shelter animals of the City of Newport Beach.  Most of dog rescues come pre-screened from the Orange County shelter on their last day or two, but they have also rescued dogs from Riverside and San Bernardino county shelters.  Home Free Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is not a breed-specific shelter.  Their mission is simple: help dogs in need find their new forever homes.
