A Tough Week for Newport

I have intentionally steered very clear of doing anything like obituaries or memorials or anything else, because of the door that leaves open… But this last week in Newport has been a real doozy.

Pat Wall, a longtime bartender Blackies and friend to everyone he met, passed peacefully in his sleep last week.  On a personal note, Pat was one of the first people I met when I moved to California.  He and I both live near the Balboa Pier.  When I first moved here, I was happy living in that little Balboa Pier bubble, but he was the one who dragged me kicking and screaming to the Newport Pier area, and convinced me that I absolutely, positively needed a bicycle if I intended to live on the peninsula.  He was absolutely right.  He encouraged me in everything I had ever done with the city, and was one of the happiest guys I’ve ever met in my life.  There was not a bad bone in his body. His loss is particularly difficult to handle.  You can donate to his final expenses, here: https://www.gofundme.com/qc6pvnds/

Don “Foosh” Fuschetti, Aside from being a great guy best known for his local music.  Was killed while crossing inside of a crosswalk on 17th street– where people have been advocating for a flashing crosswalk for years.  Sign the petition, here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/894/422/640/make-the-westcliff-rutland-crosswalk-light-up/

Richie/Ricardo Saicha worked at several local establishments, known to so many.  He passed after a motorcycle crash last week.  Details on this are still very unclear.
