As many of you may [or may not!] know, I have been working with the bars and restaurants on the peninsula, and also the ABC, or Alcoholic Beverage Control in order to protect them from council ordinances proposing new regulations to places open past 11pm, and the tripling of the police on nights and weekends.
As accusations from naysayers have recently been flung about, imagining a peninsula filled with irresponsible owners and bars that simply didn’t care– every single one of those accusations were resoundingly proved wrong yesterday, with passionate and dedicated local owners sending an estimated 200 employees to the new Lido Live, where they all took a course on alcohol abuse, over-serving, and ID verification– all of it both overseen and conducted by the ABC.
I headed up an immense effort that took months of effort and– in spite of technology failures from the registration systems and conflicting schedules from dozens of bars and hundreds of people– worked out perfectly. I seriously could not be happier with the results.
Attendees passed the course with flying colors, bringing home certificates from the ABC itself.
A huge thanks to:
– Lido Live for providing the venue, food, and drinks.
– To the ABC for coming out and providing the training session for all of our peninsula employees.
– To all of the bars and restaurants on the peninsula for sending their employees out to this course.
– To all of our wonderful bar and restaurant employees who came out by the hundreds.
This turnout proves beyond a shadow of a doubt the dedication of all the bars and restaurants; it shows that they truly do care, and they are absolutely willing to work with our community to create a safe and fun environment for everyone. Most importantly, it sends a clear message to the city and all of our councilpeople that the bar and restaurant owners are passionate about their community and providing top-notch service to not just their customers– but our residents as well.
Here are some pictures of the event!
