From now until the end of the month, watch out for the Click It Or Ticket campaign, which will run until May 31. Newport police say they will be taking a “no excuses” approach on seatbelt tickets this time around.
“If you ask the family members of those unrestrained people who were killed in crashes, they’ll tell you they wish their loved ones had buckled up,” Newport Beach police Lt. Tom Fischbacher said in a statement. “The bottom line is that seat belts save lives. If these enforcement crackdowns get people’s attention and get them to buckle up, then we’ve done our job.”
If it’s your first time being nailed for this, then be prepared to give the state $161 in revenue as your price for living on the edge. However, if you don’t buckle in your children under 16, then be prepared to shell out $490.
As usual, the painful irony is that it seems that the unbuckled motorcycle cops will be handing out the bulk of these tickets. 🙂
Stay safe, and buckle up. They’re out!
