This Wednesday during a rescheduled city council meeting, the council voted 6-0 (with Daigle not present) to rename the Lifeguard HQ to the Benjamin M. Carlson Lifeguard Headquarters. The organization whose task is honoring Ben was also awarded with a $10,000 check to help their progress towards a statue to be placed near the Lifeguard HQ next summer near the anniversary of both Bens birthday, and his final rescue.
We thank the Council for honoring Ben, a friend and hero. This is a great way to spend some of the last moments of this council term doing something great for the community.
Our heartfelt thanks to incoming Mayor Ed Selich, termed out councilpeople Mike Henn and Nancy Gardner, current mayor Rush Hill, Keith Curry, and Tony Petros.
We look forward to the continued support of Ed Selich, Keith Curry, and Tony Petros as the new council takes office in December. Their voices and vote will be what allows us to place the statue overlooking the water, which will serve as a great memorial to Ben for decades to come.
For those that don’t remember, on July 6th, Ben Carlson lost his life while rescuing a swimmer stuck in torrential storm waters. He was a great friend to many in the local community, and a true hero who put the lives of others before himself.
