Nobody is Running Against Two of Three Council Members. Want to Run? Here’s How!

Share this one with your friends!

At the time of this publishing (according to the city website, here: https://www.newportbeachca.gov/government/departments/city-clerk/filings/campaign-disclosure-statements), Mayor Will O’Neill, Mayor Pro Tem Brad Avery, and Councilman Jeff Herdman– all city council members– are running unopposed for their seats.  Unopposed. It is shameful for any politician to run without any opposition, as it strips the voice of the public to voice dissent or opposition.

UPDATE: The correct site is: https://www.newportbeachca.gov/home/showdocument?id=67259 — it shows Nancy Scarbrough running against Avery, who has completed her paperwork (but not yet started fundraising), and both Noah Blom & Marshall Silberberg *considering* a run against Herdman– but neither has completed their paperwork to actually run.

The deadline for *turning in the completed* paperwork is August 7th, at 4:30pm.

The process to run takes takes just a few minutes to fill out paperwork, and then collecting 40 signatures to support your nod from registered voters in your district.  Assuming the paperwork is filed this morning, this would give individuals 3 days to collect 40 signatures from residents inside their district.

Do you know somebody that would like to run for City Council?  Do you know somebody that doesn’t like unopposed politicians?  Do you know someone who thinks people deepening the financial debt for a city that is already insolvent is a bad thing?  How about someone who opposes tax increases, or our local government stealing private property, or literally instituting socialist programs?

The process is free to file in your name will appear on the November ballot against your opponent, if are living in districts 2, 5, or 7 (map linked here: http://nbgis.newportbeachca.gov/gispub/MapCatalog/pdf_maps/council_districts_11X17.pdf).  You must be registered to vote in that district for the last 30 days to file.

But you need to act quickly.  The paperwork must be filled out either today at City Hall.  if you have any interest in running please call me, Mike Glenn, on my cell at 949-229-0096.

If you don’t like the way the city is being run– file to run for office.  I am happy to provide guidance on your campaign, if needed.  No cost.
