BREAKING: Man Found Dead in Pool of Blood on 15th St Lifeguard Tower

This morning, at about 8 a.m., Newport Beach Police Department came to attend a call for an unresponsive victim sitting on the lifeguard tower on 15th Street.

Upon arriving, it was clear that the man had expired.

A pool of blood below the tower indicated that this was probably from a gunshot, whether self-inflicted or from a murder is unknown at this time.

It is currently not known the time of death, but it is statistically unlikely that somebody woke up early in the morning to either commit murder or to commit suicide.

If you notice the 15th Street area closed off as a crime scene, this is why.

The man has not yet been identified, and the motive has not yet been established, we will keep you updated with the news as it breaks.

UPDATE @ 11:08AM: A SaveNewporter heard what they believe to be gunfire from about 17th or 18th Street last night at about 8:45pm.  First one shot, then another about a minute later, followed by several other shots in rapid succession, and then silence.  Last night, it was dismissed as fireworks despite the odd pattern of burst, but this morning, they said their first guess made more sense.

UPDATE @ 12:57pm: Multiple official sources have confirmed that this death was a suicide.  Our condolences to the family and friends of this person who decided end their life.  If you are struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts, please speak to someone about it.   You can also always call the suicide prevention hotline, at 1-800-273-8255, which is available 24 hours, everyday.  May his family know love, especially during this trying time.  RIP.
