Hit Piece Targets Mike Glenn… badly

Wednesday and Thursday, a hit piece mailer was arriving in mailboxes throughout Newport Beach.  It attempted to cast me in a bad light– but was filled with inaccurate information.

First, it says that I molested a coin-operated vending machine.  Besides the image that brings forward by the East Coast law-language, the fact is that I beat up a newspaper vending machine when I was 19 years old and then I mouthed off to the cop who saw me do it.  Yes, I was young and dumb and made a really stupid choice at age 19.  You may be surprised to know, I was an idiot at age 19.

The more disturbing thing is that I actually paid to have this record sealed so that it wouldn’t haunt me.  My opponent is endorsed by the right-hand man of the District Attorney.   I am very curious how they illegally obtained this information, as it implies either fraud or corruption at the highest levels.

The other two items on there are technically accurate, but wildly misleading.  It says I was sued for rent at a place I didn’t even live in (my name was still on the lease but someone else was living there– I paid the amount in full out of my own pocket and they kicked out the then-tenant) and that I don’t pay my taxes (Being busy with a newly-forming business, I forgot to file in 2008… but the government didn’t forget!  They called me and I paid the debt in full– this was all settled many years ago).

To me, the worst part about this whole mailer is that they found a photo of me with long hair and a long goatee.  I thought long ago that I had purged all evidence of my “longhair days”.

Over the last half-decade, I’ve written thousands of pages of my positions on Newport Beach-related items, and the only things they can dig up on me are two very misleading things that are ages old, and one idiotic thing that I did when I was 19.  They have not brought up a single issue that they want to disagree with me on.

That speaks volumes, as they realize I have been on the right side of every single issue.  Newport deserves someone with a solid, positive track record.

Yes– This mailer is a prime example as to the depths to which local politics has sunk.  Share this story with your neighbors to get a good laugh out of what a circus Newport politics has become!
