Pet of the Week: Toby

Last Friday was April Fools, so our Pet of the Week was delayed… But without further adeiu…

Newport dogs need you! … And we’ve got the perfect pup for you to rescue who needs a forever home.

From the shelter:

“Toby is a red and white male Shetland Sheepdog mix.  He is about 2 years old and we got him from the OC shelter on his last day as he had been declared vicious for snapping at a groomer.  He has longer fur, so they were trying to take out the mats and hurt him.  He is not even close to vicious.  He is friendly to everyone, and his tail never stops wagging.  He loves to give kisses and wants to greet everyone he sees.

He seems friendly with most other dogs, smaller ones better than bigger ones but would probably be fine with either with proper introduction.  We think he is housetrained, as we have never seen him poop or pee in his kennel, but it is hard to tell in a situation like we have here.  He is slightly high energy — likes to play and run in the yard, enjoys walks, but will also settle down once back in his kennel.  We have had him about 3 weeks.”

Home Free Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is a registered 501c3 organization and operates out of a facility in Newport Beach.  They provide housing and care for the shelter animals of the City of Newport Beach.  Most of dog rescues come pre-screened from the Orange County shelter on their last day or two, but they have also rescued dogs from Riverside and San Bernardino county shelters.  Home Free Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is not a breed-specific shelter.  Their mission is simple: help dogs in need find their new forever homes.
