Dog Beach Meeting TONIGHT

TONIGHT, Tuesday March 1 at 6pm will be the Parks, Beach, and Rec meeting about whether or not to destroy Dog Beach.  Please be there to tell everyone how much you love dog beach and what it means to you!

Here is what my message will be, and I hope you join me on it: Do not only keep Dog Beach, but expand it.  Allow dogs on Newport Beach between the County’s Dog Beach and Olive Street (one block over) so that we don’t have to waste the time of our police department ticketing dogs who run over that imaginary line.

Additionally, allow dogs on the beach in that area from 5:30am – 8:15pm (currently, dogs are banned during the daytime there, which is where many of the tickets are coming from).

This will not only save police resources but will also accomplish what the community so overwhelmingly desires.  There is only one resident who opposes this.

Due to our activism, Mayor Diane Dixon whose proposal it was to destroy dog beach, has recently walked back on the comments, stating “If there is a demand for a leashless beach and an ordinance is necessary to amend the code, I will listen to that option.” — we just need to show an overwhelming demand at this meeting tonight.  She will then have the option of keeping her word or breaking it… and we are already hearing a lot of feedback on what people would like to do about politicians who break promises about expanding the dog beach.

FAQ:
Q: Do I need to show up?  Will they really remove it?
A: Yes!  Nobody wanted the fire rings removed either (96% approval rating) but nobody showed up, so we lost half of them.  If you love our Dog Beach, this is the time to show up and say so. Your voice matters!

Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Sorry, there are no dogs allowed in the council chambers.

Q: Do I have to be a resident of Newport?
A: No.  All California residents are beach owners according to California State Law.  Please show up and tell us how much you love the area!

Q: I am out of town and cannot attend the meeting, what can I do?
A: WRITE!

===========================

If you wish to sign the petition to save Newport’s last Dog Beach, you can do so here:

SAVE DOG BEACH!

Do not ban off-leash dogs at dog beach!!! Regulars at Dog Beach know that off-leash dogs are not problematic. If, there are some which are, then address the problem dogs.
If there are problems with waste, address those who create those problems.

The public OVERWHELMINGLY supports keeping DOG BEACH a place for DOGS. Newport Beach has some of the longest coastline in Southern California and Dog Beach only accounts for roughly 100 yards. Let dogs have their small stretch of beach.

KEEP DOG BEACH THE WAY IT IS!
