Tsunami Advisory issued for Newport

A tsunami advisory has been issued for Newport Beach.  The tsunami advisory follows an earthquake off of Chile’s coast of 8.3, which has already produced tsunami waves along their shoreline.  Newport is expected to receive a wave of less than 1.5 feet which will arrive at approximately 4:46am on Thursday morning.

While this may sound small, please remain at a safe distance from the ocean.  Waves are powerful forces of nature weighing in at about 2,200 pounds per cubic meter, and tsunami waves tend to come in much faster than our normal sets.
