If you’ve been following our Facebook feed, you will see that we’ve had TONS of updates so far this week. The coolest one? Being the second-ever partner for Google’s Waze service. Here’s how you can join our team! Open Waze, then 1) Click on “My Waze”, 2) Click on Teams 3) then click on SaveNewport!
Yes, I realize that the icon is wonky right now. This is a brand spankin’ new option for them, and they said it will be fixed in a couple of days, so let’s cut them some slack 🙂
So, here are the newest releases:
1) WAZE! We now have traffic and speed-trap monitoring which is run 24/7 and updated on the fly.
You can access this here: http://savenewport.com/traffic
2) Weather! You can now see the weather forecast, and for our sailers, kite surfers, kite flyers, and bicyclists, this also includes wind status and forecast, so you can plan your adventures properly!
You can access this here: http://savenewport.com/weather
3) Council Meeting Livestream! You can now watch council meetings and some of Newport Beach TV by simply visiting the following site while they are either streaming or in session:
http://savenewport.com/council
4) Surf Report! Our new Surf Report contains information from both ocbeachinfo.com and magicseaweed.com to give you the surf and the status of the water’s cleanliness. If you want more details or think another site does it better– tell me and we can improve this!
You can catch it by going to http://savenewport.com/surf/
5) Crime Report Tallies! You asked for it, and here it is. This is a crime report tally for a day-by-day resultset of crime in Newport Beach. Please note that the nature of crime reporting is fluid so these are all subject to change, retroactively.
Why is it fluid? Because someone who calls the cops because their laptop was stolen might find it at work, or in their car. A guy who calls the cops because another man supposedly threatened him may later be proven to be innocent, etc.
So take these stats with a grain of salt– however, it does accurately portray the CALLS received– which is what is sometimes the most interesting.
NOTE: This is released earlier than I would have liked, so some of the features are a little buggy, and they will be resolved over the next week or so.
NOTE2: All stats are refreshed only once daily, so this is not a live crime report, but will tally everything prior to the previous midnight.
You can find this report at http://savenewport.com/crime/
6) Earthquake livefeed! Here you can see the most recent earthquakes in the SoCal area, and how close they are from you. If you think you felt a shake, check it out here for the confirmation or size details.
This can be found at: http://savenewport.com/earthquakes/
