Dixon Endorses Wagner

You are judged by the company you keep: Diane Dixon was touted as the headliner for Wagner at a recent fundraiser.

Diane Dixon has made a LOT of headlines since her first vote in office just three months ago– and not in a good way.

She has claimed she wants government out of private business, but then presented the “Lights Out At 11pm” proposal (aka Balboa Overlay). She is– and always has been– the ONLY “Lights Out” advocate. She said she would spend tax dollars wisely, communicate with people– and most importantly, “Listen”. However, not a single business owner was contacted prior to the barely-complying-with-the-brown-act vote on the Balboa Overlay. During this vote, her proposal was to direct city staff to operate at taxpayer expense to figure out how to regulate businesses– specifically by stripping property rights.

She’s (in the same session) voted against approving minutes, then immediately approved them in another vote (all without any discussion in between)

She was supported by the fire ring group and then has repeatedly voted against fire rings.  When she lost that vote and they were restored, she proposed another vote just 6 weeks later.  Smooth.

She was supported by the Stop The Dock Tax group, but then proceeded to validate the Dock Tax, despite it very clearly being a violation of Prop 13

She has claimed that she wants to Audit City Hall but then just allowed a self-audit (the response, of course, was “we checked ourselves out and we’re great!”)

She has claimed she is a free market advocate but then as Mayor Pro Tem has refused to re-address the TEN MILLION DOLLAR giveaway of taxpayer land to ExplorOcean (the same company that destroyed the FunZone, and the same company whose CEO has a degree in political science and also made a 90% max-out to her campaign).  Under her leadership, the city is now set to subsidize ExplorOcean’s failing business model (which has lost *millions* in just the last three years) with taxpayer money through a giveaway of $10,000,000.00 worth of taxpayer owned land.

She has lied to my face personally and repeatedly (she told me she’d allow dancing in bars and relaxed laws on businesses just one week before trying to shut them all down; she told me that “I’ve read everything you have written so far and our views are identical”). She has lied to the faces of many other people I know, as well, including countless small business owners.

In fact, last Tuesday she led the vote to FIGHT the verdict that restored dancing at Woody’s Wharf.

It’s all a little bit absurd.

Dixon and her supporters have lined up behind Wagner, whose supporters have also flooded my mailbox with misleading attacks and outright lies about Moorlach, who is actually a great guy.

Now, Wagner struck me as a nice, levelheaded guy, but if this is the kind of people he touts as his “supporters”, I am completely certain that he will not be getting my vote.  Two very qualified individuals are also in the race: John Moorlach and Naz Namazi.  Moorlach saved OC from bankruptcy, and is a great guy.  Namazi is a terrific gal and a personal friend of mine who is very passionate about small government.

I’ll leave your decisions up to you, but after seeing who Wagner surrounds himself with and advertises as his support base, he’s definitely not going to be getting my vote.
