This morning, over 900 LA Schools were closed due to a terror threat communicated through email. The closure affected over 700,000 students.
The email which triggered the closure had detailed which schools were supposedly targets, and due to the specificity of the email, the LA Sheriff decided to close all schools out of an abundance of caution.
There are no indications that any OC schools are affected by the threat– in fact, not even all of the LA schools were threatened. Rest assured, I know Newport Beach’s Chief Jay Johnson and Deputy Chief McGill personally, and they are leading one of (in my opinion “THE”) finest law enforcement branch in the country.
Last year was the second-lowest crime year in Newport’s history (the year prior was the first-lowest) and we are on track for another great year.
As always with times where many people are densely packed into shopping malls at the same time, everyone should be on a heightened sense of alert– but Chief Johnson and Deputy Chief McGill do a great job of keeping everyone safe here in Newport. And today, at least, our schools are under no threat at all.
