DONT BE SCAMMED: VOTE NO ON PROP 22
I know this is going to come as a shock because marketing campaigns from Democrats and Republicans alike are telling you to vote for it– which should be enough of a sign to raise the hairs on the back of your neck… and Uber/Lyft jumped in with heartfelt marketing campaigns… But Prop 22 is a total pile of trash.
Why? Because AB5– the bill which it seems to exempt Uber and Lyft from– is a total pile of trash. It basically makes it illegal for contractors to work in California.
As Uber/Lyft hire contractors to do their business, this affects them. But it also affects virtually *all other contractors in the entire state*
But Uber/Lyft have the money to protect themselves by giving themselves a carve-out exception, while leaving all other contractors to rot
That ain’t right. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. I’m all about repealing AB5, but not giving rich companies their own personal exceptions to the law.
If you want to repeal the law, then do it.
But having laws for poor people and different laws for rich people? That is not just unAmerican, that is abhorrent in every imaginable way. It is literally creating a caste system here in America. While I believe that this proposition will likely pass due to the endless amount of money that the ride share companies have selfishly pumped into the bill to benefit *only* themselves– I am going to be a strong NO ON PROP 22.
