I know I'm a broken record BUT the situation is so out of hand and the city is doing nothing to rectify the problem. As least that's the way it looks from the residents point of view. The dog situation has grown by leaps and bounds over the summer. Now you have moved the sand out of the river mouth, which is a great thing because there is less dog beach BUT all that has done is move the dogs by tower 71 and on down the beach. Just this Sunday while entertaining guests on the beach we saw 5 owners let their dogs (off leaches) poop on our beach without cleaning it up. We even had one let their dog (off leash) poop right in the waves. At one time during the day we counted 18 dogs off leashes on the beach from where we were sitting on the beach. We were on the beach from 1:00 - 6:00 and made a game of counting dogs without leashes go by. Total 52!!! NOT ONCE did we see a dog patrol truck. If they were their doing their job you could have paid for a months salary in fines. 2 This is a HUGE problem for West Newport and getting worse by the day. PLEASE help us solve this problem. Thanks, Stephanie On Monday, March 16, 2015 9:25 AM, Stephanie wrote: The area between Newport & Huntington is no mans land/county as you put it. The beaches just the other side of tower 73, from the end of Seashore down toward Newport Pier is Newport Beach. There are constantly dogs on the beach/alley/street at all times of the day with and without leashes, with & without bags to clean up after their dogs. That is Newport Beaches duty to monitor/ticket/keep under control, which is NOT happening. No dog patrol in sight all day until finally at 4:30 ish he showed up. We talked with him he said they had over 60 calls to deal with 3 and just couldn't get down to our area. When he did check he said he counted 83 dogs on the dog beach. That didn't count the numerous dogs roaming the beach unleashed all day long. Need I say more...... We may try this tack with the County. Stay tuned. DBD Diane Brooks Dixon On Sat, Mar 14, 2015 at 4:44 PM, Stephanie wrote: Diane, I really appreciate you getting back to me. I know things take time, I just want you to know how unbelievably bad the situation has become and is getting worse by the week. Yesterday, Friday at 3:45 PM, I was coming home from Huntington and couldn't believe the number of dogs at 4 the dog beach. I actually went down and counted them. 43, yes I said 43 dogs!!!! That means not only dogs but cars trying to park in our dead end street, traffic, numerous walking our streets & alleys, you get the picture. Today being a Saturday and a beautiful one at that, we have had non stop traffic of dog owners walking to the dog park and loose/no leash on the beaches. Thank you for your help with this matter, let's hope it gets taken care of/under control sooner than later. Thanks, have a good weekend. I have asked City Staff to work with the County and come up with a solution. I have been over there and have seen the situation. As you recall, it is county property. Not City property. Stay tuned -- we're trying to work with the slow moving County. This area is not a priority for them so it's a struggle. We're exploring different options. 5 Thank you for trying. You never did call me and never responded to my last email. I know I have to be a pain but honestly something HAS to be done, this is getting ridiculous. I I/we don't figure this out it's only going to get worse. I quit counting this weekend at 22 dogs & their owners walking our alley to get to the park. Plus cleaning up 2 different piles of dog poop. That's just in my alley, can you imagine the other alley's, street, parks & beach?????? Our neighbors are sick of it also, I've told them I've been in contact with the city and they say they are working on it. Its been over a year since I've first contacted the city and it's only getting worse NOT better. I do go talk to the animal control when I can catch them and thank them for being down here and trying to control the issue with dogs off their leashes. On any given day you can find numerous dogs running around without leashes. I'll give you a call and you and I can talk. I have a feeling this is a long process with the county. I'm willing to work with you on this. This dog park has been going on for years and we can't get the city to help us at all with it. Our neighborhood wasn't designed to have a dog park. We have parking problems already because of the beach and it's a dead end street. I live off what would be 70th, not even at the end and the traffic from car's, people & dogs is constant. I was woken at 7:15 yesterday by dogs fighting in the alley (walking with their owners to the dog park). I have attached a picture of what just part of it looked like at 10 AM. I counted over 26 dogs in the area. That's a lot of extra people and cars in our area. We have poop constantly in our parks, alleys and beach from this problem. It can't be good for our water having these dogs pooping and peeing in our water washing out the river and onto our beaches. 7 While trying to enjoy the beach on Sunday we counted 16 dogs off their leashes running around, peeing and pooping on our beach and in the water. We have a BIG problem and need the cities help to solve it. Last time I contacted Michael and he said he'd look into it. The only thing that we noticed different was the dog catcher can around a little more often for a few weeks. That does NO good, it the destination of the dog park. Unless we get rid of it the problem will continue to grow as it has over the years. Thank you for helping us to take back our neighborhood.
