It's getting worse by the month. Last Saturday while I was working around the house I counted 20 (yes 20) people/families with dogs walking down our alley toward the dog park. That's not including whomever was on Seashore heading that direction and that's only the ones I saw while in my garage. Not only is it a parking problem, but numerous dogs are off their leashes (I have kids and we have lots of neighborhood kids)owners aren't carrying bags and cleaning up their dog's messes (our neighborhood is). This is so out of hand and we need your help to change this. I'm hoping you/city counsel is taking this serious? We live on a dead end street, our street wasn't designed to have a dog park at the end of it and we need your help to change this. I'll give you a call and you and I can talk. I have a feeling this is a long process with the county. I'm willing to work with you on this. This dog park has been going on for years and we can't get the city to help us at all with it. Our neighborhood wasn't designed to have a dog park. We have parking problems already because of the beach and it's a dead end street. I live off what would be 70th, not even at the end and the traffic from car's, people & dogs is constant. I was woken at 7:15 yesterday by dogs fighting in the alley (walking with their owners to the dog park). I have attached a picture of what just part of it looked like at 10 AM. I counted over 26 dogs in the area. That's a lot of extra people and cars in our area. We have poop constantly in our parks, alleys and beach from this problem. It can't be good for our water having these dogs pooping and peeing in our water washing out the river and onto our beaches. 3 While trying to enjoy the beach on Sunday we counted 16 dogs off their leashes running around, peeing and pooping on our beach and in the water. We have a BIG problem and need the cities help to solve it. Last time I contacted Michael and he said he'd look into it. The only thing that we noticed different was the dog catcher can around a little more often for a few weeks. That does NO good, it the destination of the dog park. Unless we get rid of it the problem will continue to grow as it has over the years. Thank you for helping us to take back our neighborhood. Thank you for keeping us informed. Diane DBD Diane Brooks Dixon On Fri, Oct 10, 2014 at 8:44 PM, Henn, Michael wrote: I thought that was what you meant but wanted to be sure. I would love to help with this, but unfortunately that area is owned and administered by the County and the City does not have jurisdiction. We have tried repeatedly to get the County to step up enforcement in that area to no avail. They just don't consider it a high enough priority. As I am termed out in November, I am copying my successor Diane Dixon on this email to alert her to your concerns. I am not sure what you are referring to. We have more parking daily Traffic has lessened considerably Walking traffic and dog traffic have de-creased significantly We have less barking dogs We have less poop to clean up on green belts and in alley I'd like to ask that the city continue (we sure hope you are working on this) to help us get West Newport back from all this traffic, dogs, dog owners, poop & pee. I knew it was county jurisdiction and also know without Newport getting involved to help their residents with this problem nothing will ever get accomplished. This isn't just going to go away, we need help to deal with the problem. Please keep me updated. Unfortunately, that area is generally under County jurisdiction and we have had difficulty in the past in getting them to engage in enforcement activity. By copy of this email, I am asking the City Manager to have another crack at it. I know it's getting pretty bad. Mike From: Stephanie Sent: Tuesday, July 08, 2014 3:20 PM To: Henn, Michael Subject: dog park west newport Michael, I've been meaning tackle this problem for a couple years now and finally getting to it because it has gotten so out of control. 6 We have a dog park at the end of Seashore in West Newport in the channel between Newport & Huntington. I say dog park because that's what everyone walking by with their dogs calls it. It's well know around Newport. The problems are: 1. lack of parking on our dead end street for so many dog owners (they even park in the Shores and walk across PCH) 2. dogs not on leashes has increased over the years on the beach and in the parks 3. number of dogs & their owners have grown to record numbers daily (on any given day & time you can count upwards of 20 dogs) 4. fesses on sidewalks, parks & alleys (that we have to clean up) Our neighborhood wasn't designed to accommodate a dog park. We need the cities help to close this down. Unless you live here you would have no idea it existed and was a HUGE problem and getting bigger by the year. I just walked down and tried to count the number of dogs without walking down to the water to see how many were in there counted 23. Thank you for you help with this matter, Stephanie
