A Tribute to Tim Hamilton

On Monday, May 29th at 11:07, Tim Hamilton passed away due to a heart attack.

I met Tim at the traditional Blackies Thanksgiving celebration several years ago when he– a concerned resident– decided that he had had enough of the city council’s antics which served to routinely restrict more and more liberty. It turned out, we actually had several mutual friends in common, and he also introduced me to Doug Rugg, that day, who organized the event.

We had a blast and moved forward as allies, and kept each other informed on the happenings in our respective areas: Him on Balboa Island, and me on Balboa Peninsula– and of course, both of us for the city as a whole.  Later, he introduced me to two other friends, Claudia Roxburgh and Scott Hoffman– both fantastic friends and people.

As I continued in my hobby of fighting back government intrusions into the lives of citizens, Tim was always there– without exception. From my fundraisers to Christmases to the meetings at Council or County, Tim took unprecedented initiative and at public meetings with the council, always spoke clearly, concisely, and accurately while exposing the hypocrisy and the crimes of elected officials. He was a warrior without fear, but with an enormous heart and a British accent that would instantly charm all ladies within earshot. He gave back to the community with his whole heart, and never asked anything in return.

Watch him at this meeting just last Tuesday, May 23rd, as he calmly but concisely lays the case out about the immoral and criminal actions by Diane Dixon as she continually tries to ban dog beach:

Put simply, nobody can deliver like Tim could.

His presence can never be replaced, but it leaves a gaping hole in our force to do good in the community.
At the next organized event, please consider speaking in honor of Tim.

Tim was a man Newport desperately needed, and, as temporarily as life would have it: a man we were miraculously lent.
