Is There a Tsunami Warning for Newport?

NO.

Despite Japan’s massive 7.3 (downgraded now to 6.9) earthquake, the US does not currently have any tsunami warnings in effect.
However, even if there were, would we know about it?  The Balboa Peninsula has three different tsunami warning stations that are “tested” the first Friday of each month, but all they really test is to see if they rotate– no sound.  So if a tsunami were to actually occur, we could all rest assured that our tsunami warning stations will rotate.  They have not been audibly tested since they were installed about a decade ago.
