Cassidys is back!

Today, one-month to-the-day after a vechicle took out the most delicious burger-makers in Newport, Cassidys has officially re-opened its doors.

On the day of the incident, we set up a GoFundMe page to help their employees– many of which rely on the heavy summer income.  The funds broke into the four-figures quickly– and kept going and going.  At the time of this writing, over $5,000 was raised to help them through this downtime.

Many people were skeptical about whether or not the employees would really need the funds, so Manager Mary Elam put out the following statement, from all the people who work there:

We realize this note is long overdue. It has taken a lot to put Cassidy’s back together. More than any of us could have possibly imagined. Everyone has been working non stop to make it happen. But we want to take this time to THANK every one of you that were so thoughtful, caring and most important generous to help all of us through this tough time. Contrary to a few of the posts that have been made Cassidy’s employees have not received compensation for lost wages and at this point don’t know that we will. So your generosity DID make a difference in the lives of Cassidy’s employees. To put it bluntly, you people care about us much more than the insurance companies seem to. But, with the support we have received from you and the rest of the community, has definitely helped keep our spirits up and trudge through this unfortunate accident. Not in a million lifetimes did we expect to receive the support and generosity we have gotten from customers throughout the United States. Cassidy’s employees miss all of our customers/extended family. We have all been working very hard to get Cassidy’s cranking again and we are so ready to see everyone, fire up the grill and find out what’s been going on in your lives. So thank you so very much for your generosity and support and we hope to see everyone very shortly. A special Thank You to Michael Glenn for his acute awareness, knowledge and kindness to make this happen. Mike is a true community leader. Sincerely, Brian K, Caleb, Christine, Derek, Eugene, Mary, Brian H, Caesar, Manny, Josh, Jesus

I am humbled by the kind words, but the employees like Mary and the ones who signed are the ones who spent years crafting the relationships that made everyone so eager to help– all I did was help point people to a direction to accomplish what they already wanted to do– you guys are the real stars here.

All that to say… I definitely know where I’m eating for lunch today! 🙂

Ho Sum Bistro is not yet back: On a less happy note, Ho Sum Bistro owner Ed O’Neill released a statement explaining that after the massive electrical fire on June 20th, his best guess for opening will be towards the beginning of next year.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to grab a burger somewhere…
