Officer Darling and Deputy Chief McGill in 2012 Tip A Cop Event

To Protect and… “Serve”?

Each year, the Newport Beach PD hosts a fundraiser called their “Tip-A-Cop” event (I like my title better!).  Police employees will serve as “celebrity” hosts and servers at Javier’s (7832 Pacific Coast Hwy) today between 5pm and 9pm.  Newport’s own Deputy Police Chief McGill will be there from 7pm until 9pm.

So why are they serving? Does our PD need second-jobs?  No, they are raising money for the Special Olympics right here in Orange County!  This is the second year that the Tip-A-Cop event will be hosted by Javier’s, and last year they managed to raise an impressive $10,000– all of which went directly to the Special Olympics.

As we all know, Javier’s is famous for not just their service, views, and food, but also their drinks.  If you plan on imbibing while supporting the Special Olympics, don’t get served by a cop twice in one night: Call a cab, an Uber, or a Lyft.

New users of Uber can use our code of “Uber4Newport” and it will pay for the first $15 of your fare.  You can download Uber here: https://get.uber.com/invite/uber4newport

New users of Lyft can use our code of “SAVENEWPORT” and it will pay for the first $50 of your fare.  You can download Lyft here:https://www.lyft.com/invited/SAVENEWPORT

You can call a Yellow Cab OC, at 714-999-9999 (MAKE NOTE: 18004mytaxi is no longer working)
