Shooting Stars Tomorrow

Tonight is supposed to be the peak of the Geminid Meteor Shower, but the viewing conditions are projected to be cloudy.  But don’t fret: Tomorrow will be nearly just as good, and the viewing conditions will be much more ideal, with cloud cover and transparency being at almost peak conditions, according to the ClearSkyChart.

The Geminids are often bright and intensely colored– This is the most abundant shower of the year!

Maximum meteors: around 75 meteors per hour.
Velocity 22 miles/sec (medium/slow velocity)

As always: The best time to see ANY meteor shower is the hour or two before dawn. Try between 2-4am for best results!  Because of our abundant Christmas decorations this time of year, get as high up as possible to sit above both the light and air pollution to get the best sights.  I personally prefer Top Of The World in Laguna Beach.

Too lazy to step outside and see particles falling to earth in a fiery flame at 1,300mph?  You bum!  You can check out multiple feeds being hosted on this livesteam instead: http://www.space.com/19195-night-sky-planets-asteroids-webcasts.html
