Grant Boys Going out of Business & OC Register BKs

After 66 years of serving the Newport/Mesa community, the Grant Boys (also known as Grant’s for Guns) will be going out of business (http://www.grantboys.com/).  Company representatives could not be reached this morning, but their ad taken out in the OC Register seems to indicate that November will be their final month.

If you are looking for great deals on outdoor supplies, their ad says everything must go, everything is on sale, with prices up to 50% off.

In other news, the OC Register (http://www.ocregister.com/articles/communications-690125-bankruptcy-struggling.html) has filed for Bankruptcy Protection, according to an article that they released about themselves today.  This is the second filing in 6 years for the struggling paper, happening after a disastrous expansion attempt into the LA market and putting up paywall restrictions on their website reminiscent of previous paywall attempt disasters in the late 90s.

There is a bid by management to take over the company, but other bidders may soon emerge– notably the LA Times, which is rumored to be owed substantial amounts of money by the OCRegister due to it providing transportation and delivery services for the paper.
