“Beach Ball” The Sea Lion– RELEASED!

Do you remember on May 12 when we posted photos of the sea lion who innocently walked into Beachball?  The story made viral and made international news (woah!)
Beach Ball 2 Beach Ball
Well, thanks to your help, support, and the hard work of teams like HBMMST and PMMC, yesterday, lil’ Beach Ball (his new name) was released! As Beach Ball took his first steps back into the ocean, he had put on an amazing amount of weight and is expected to make a full recovery.

Sealions normally wait for their mothers to come back with food, but as the ocean waters warm with El Nino and other events, the food is pushed further and further off-shore, resulting in sealion pups waiting days or even a week before their mothers return.  Naturally, they grow impatient and hungry, and attempt to find another source of food.  HOWEVER, it is very important that you do NOT feed these animals, as they are often dehydrated and can choke and die on the food which you are attempting to save their lives with!  Call PMMC to pick them up, and then call organizations like MMST to help protect them until PMMC gets there.

This post will be updated with contact information for both organizations, shortly.
