If you like Wendy Leece, you’ll LOVE Keith Curry

Wendy Leece… the pariah of Newport/Mesa politics.  She, runs against members of her own party who are actively doing great jobs, breaks her promises to both the public and to her own party, and her social crowd mostly consists of political crazies– who she regularly votes in solidarity with.  She even broke her promise not to accept money from certain organizations– just weeks after signing papers saying she wouldn’t do just that.  Is there anyone else more deserving of the “RINO” title than Leece?  Yes: Keith Curry.

Keith Curry signed a pledge with the Lincoln Club, and just weeks later accepted contributions from the very unions he pledged against.  Now, nothing against unions, but can’t a guy be held accountable for lying?  But the contemptible Curry continues, using a stump speech which is all about how he will protect Prop13, yet just last year Curry voted to institutionalize violations of Prop13, as we clearly pointed out in our article.

Curry claims he’s against the abysmal highspeed rail project– a great stance to have!  However, Curry was actually doing “contract work” on the high-speed rail project itself– one of many consultants paid millions of dollars before any rail was laid.  Keith Curry signed a pledge to not increase taxes, but not only did he do just that in Newport Beach– he actually officially recommended increasing taxes state-wide in order to pay for the high-speed rail that he is supposedly “against”.  What a politician!  Another one of Curry’s issues is “local control” where he identifies the fire rings as a shining example, but he conveniently fails to mention that his votes cast were actually to ban fires in fire rings.   Does it ever stop?

Keith Curry is a current council member in Newport who is currently running for Assembly (which is the “California-version of the House of Representatives”).

His 8 years of “service” in Newport Beach were during a 10 year span which saw a doubling a spending, a doubling of debt, increased taxes and institutionalized violations of Prop13 (by calling taxes, “fees”).

Keith Curry– or “Crackpot Curry” as many people in Newport Beach have come to know him– is not only the type of politician that makes my skin crawl, but he’s precisely the type of elected politician that makes people lose faith in our electoral process as a whole.  He is the type of politician that special interests love– and you can look at both his voting record and his public donation history to verify that.  Funny how that corresponds, isn’t it?

Crackpot Curry and Wendy Leece are two peas in a pod, but Curry caters to wealthy special interests more effectively, so he is able to raise more money.  Don’t be fooled by his bank account: The dishonest and contemptible methods deployed by Curry and Wendy Leece are absolutely identical.

Is it totally shocking that we’d support Curry’s opponent no matter who it was?  No.  However, we are lucky to have his opponent actually be someone who seeks to decrease taxes, decrease spending, and decrease the interference in the free market and in our personal lives– someone who we could get behind regardless of whether or not he was running against Curry: the beloved Huntington Beach Mayor, Matt Harper.

In this race, we enthusiastically endorse Matt Harper for Assembly.

We Endorse Matt Harper
We Endorse Matt Harper

Furthermore, as an unprecedented move, we also take our very first active “NO” endorsement, and are actively endorsing AGAINST Keith Curry.  This will be a tough race for Harper, as Curry has raised a lot of money from his special interests– so please consider helping to spread the word for Harper.  The last thing we need is for Newport’s current council to ascend to the state level.

We’ve made some mistakes before in Newport– so let’s work hard to contain the damage and not promote our mistakes to the state level. Vote Harper for Assembly.
