Toxic

Mayor Rush Hill Has Officially Gone Toxic.

It takes a lot to unseat a mayor, but it’s looking like Duffy is successfully doing so. Even Mayor Rush Hill’s closest allies are distancing themselves from him. In the newest flyer hitting mailboxes this week promoting the atrocious Measure Y bill, we can see that Rush Hill’s name is notably absent– even though he is its highest-ranking supporter in the city.

Every single council person in support of Measure Y is listed here– but not Rush.  Check it out:

The composers of this flyer have read the polling; they his approval numbers, they see the writing on the wall. Rush Hill’s name is so bad that they refuse to even admit support from the Mayor of Newport himself.

That’s a huge deal. Duffy should buy his favorite celebratory bottle of bubbly now– but don’t drink it yet. Rush Hill still has plenty of personal resources to throw at this campaign. As we’ve seen before, Rush’s ego has proven difficult to fit into even the largest City Halls, so he could conceivably drop 6 figures of his own money on the campaign in order to counteract Duffy’s substantial campaign coffers.

Rush’s time is most certainly up, but does he know it yet? We shall see.

(Disclaimer: I directly blame Rush Hill and Keith Curry for the violations of Prop13 which caused me to become involved with politics in the first place.  This is an unusually “stabby” piece from me, and I realize that… I don’t like the idea of schadenfreude, either.)
